Jamshedpur, Aug 23: Several places in north-eastern Jharkhand including Dumka, Giridih, Pakur and Sahibganj are expected to experience heavy rain today.
IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre issued an alert of heavy rain in several districts of northeastern Jharkhand on Wednesday.
Thundershowers accompanied by lightning are also expected in a few isolated pockets.
The monsoon trough at mean sea level was today passing through Amritsar, Karnal, Meerut, Lucknow, Gaya, Malda and thence eastwards to Nagaland across Assam.
Meanwhile, Met statistics revealed that Jharkhand was still facing a rain deficit of 38 per cent.
Against a normal of 730 mm, the state has so far received 456 mm of rain resulting in a 38 per cent rain deficit.
According to statistics, except for Sahibganj, all the other 23 districts are facing a rain deficit.
Weathermen were hopeful that rain during the last few days of this month would help in reducing the state’s rain deficit figure.
