Jamshedpur, Aug 24: IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre issued a forecast of heavy rain in isolated pockets of eastern and central Jharkhand today.
Weathermen said light to moderate rain is also expected at most places today as the monsoon is active.
The monsoon trough at mean sea level was today passing through Firozpur, Ambala, Bareilly, Patna, Balurghat and thence east-southeastwards to Mizoram.
A trough runs from northwest Uttar Pradesh to south Assam across Bihar, Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level with embedded cyclonic circulation over northwest Uttar Pradesh at 0.9 km above mean sea level.
Light to moderate rain was observed at most places while heavy rain was also recorded at isolated places over the state during the past 24 hours.
It’s over two months now since the southwest monsoon had its onset in Jharkhand.
But, the state is still facing a rain deficit of 37%. According to statistics the state should have by now received 738.3 mm of rain whereas it has actually received 468.2 mm of rain, resulting in such a huge deficit.
