Ranchi, Dec.15: HEC workers today welcomed Singhbhum MP Geeta Koda for raising the issue of non-payment of their wages for seven months in Parliament.
A section of workers had reached Birsa Munda Airport to receive the women parliamentarian with garlands in their hands. They brought her to the Heavy Machine-Building Plant (HMBP) of the HEC and made her speak before the other workers.
Koda expressed her commitment to save HEC saying she is also a daughter of a labourer and knows the pain of labour class people. She said that she will be raising the voice of HEC workers in parliament besides making the heavy industry minister and the chief minister of Jharkhand aware of the problem of workers.
The parliamentarian, who is the wife of former chief minister Madhu Koda, while raising the issue said that 63-year-old company is one of the Navratna companies of the country which produces different types of equipment for ISRO and atomic energy department besides defense and mining companies but as many as 1301 regular and 1701 contract workers of the company are not being paid their wages for last seven months.
Koda, a parliamentarian associated with Indian National Congress, said that due to non-payment of their wages workers have hit the road for their demands and thus immediate attention be paid to their problem to ensure their survival in corona time.
Meanwhile, the strike of HEC workers continued on the 14th day today.
