Seraikela: As the assembly election campaign gains momentum in Jharkhand, Chief Minister Hemant Soren targeted the BJP in a fiery speech on Wednesday at a campaign rally in Seraikela in support of Ganesh Mahli. Soren claimed that the BJP’s so-called “double-engine” government left people to die of hunger and accused them of exploiting the state’s resources for their allies.
Soren called on voters to support his government, saying, “We are fighting for the rights of Jharkhand’s tribal and local communities. We have worked tirelessly for your welfare, and now, I’m here to seek your blessings. Stand with us, and I will ensure you are protected from those who oppose Jharkhand’s development.”
“Hypocrisy on Women’s Safety,” Soren Criticizes BJP’s Track Record
The Chief Minister also took aim at BJP’s record on women’s safety, criticizing the release of individuals convicted of serious crimes. “They talk about protecting mothers and daughters, yet allowed convicted individuals from the Bilkis Bano case to roam free. Similarly, in Punjab, Ram Rahim, a convicted offender, was released to campaign during elections. These are the same people who align themselves with individuals who have committed crimes against women,” Soren stated.
He pointed out that, under the BJP’s “double-engine” rule, people in Jharkhand lost their lives to starvation. “In our government, even during the pandemic, not a single person died from hunger,” Soren emphasized.
BJP Accused of Displacing Locals to Benefit Corporate Allies
Soren accused the BJP of hypocritical actions, claiming to represent the “soil” while displacing locals for mining and dam projects that benefit corporate allies. “They speak of the soil but drive people off their land for factories and mines owned by their friends. We, however, have mandated that 75% of jobs in these industries must go to locals; if not, those industries will be shut down,” Soren warned.
“JMM: The Impenetrable Wall,” Soren on BJP’s Opposition
Referring to attempts by opposition parties to disrupt his leadership, Soren said, “They tried to imprison me and bring down our government, aiming to eliminate Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). But they don’t realize JMM is like an impenetrable wall—anyone who tries to scale it will meet their end.” He further accused the BJP of escaping scrutiny by investigative agencies. “Their allies’ ports in Gujarat are hubs for narcotics, yet there’s no ED or CBI investigation; everything is conveniently covered up,” he alleged, calling out the selective actions of law enforcement agencies.
Soren’s powerful words against the BJP are likely to add further intensity to the political arena in Jharkhand as the election approaches.
