Patna: Following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, security agencies across the country have been placed on high alert. Bihar too has stepped up security, with the state police headquarters issuing a high alert directive to all districts, especially those along the Nepal border.

Strategic sites, religious places under enhanced protection

Police and administrative authorities have been directed to implement heightened vigilance across political, religious, and strategic establishments. In a letter addressed to all district police chiefs and railway SPs, Bihar ADG (Law & Order) Pankaj Darad warned of possible terror threats targeting sensitive locations including the state assembly, secretariat, Patna High Court, major religious sites, railway stations, and airports.

Instructions to boost patrols, deploy additional forces

ADG Darad emphasized that important public figures and their movements are also considered vulnerable. Security forces have been instructed to increase patrolling, post additional personnel at sensitive locations, and appoint magistrates for coordination. The order mandates regular inspection of hotels, lodges, dharamshalas, and similar establishments.

Key security measures outlined

Increased security at major establishments such as the Bihar Assembly, Patna Secretariat, Patna High Court, airport, NTPC units, and Barauni refinery. Religious places under tight watch including Mahabodhi Temple (Bodh Gaya), Patna’s Hanuman Temple, and Takht Sri Patna Sahib. More police presence in crowded public areas like railway and bus stations, schools, hospitals, malls, and restaurants. Intensified surveillance in border districts, particularly along the Indo-Nepal border. Strict social media monitoring to prevent the spread of rumours, with district magistrates authorised to temporarily suspend internet services if needed.

Emergency readiness and public reassurance

The police headquarters has assured that a rapid response strategy is in place for any emergency. Special precautions have been advised during upcoming religious festivals, public gatherings, and election rallies to ensure public safety.
