Mandi, June 1: Several passengers suffered injuries when a bus carrying more than 40 people went off the road and plummeted into a gorge in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district, police said on Thursday.

According to Soumya Sambshivam, the Superintendent of Police for Mandi, the incident happened this morning close to Kharodi in the Karsog subdivision of the Mandi district.

The accident injured several passengers, including the bus driver and conductor from Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC), police said.

The bus reportedly became wedged between two trees as it slid into the gorge, preventing it from falling farther, according to the eyewitness.

Ambulances were dispatched quickly by the local authority, and local residents assisted in carrying out emergency rescue efforts. The injured were taken to the Civil hospital.

The driver, conductor and other injured passengers are now said to be in stable condition.

Apparently, all of the other passengers are safe.

The accident’s precise reason is still unknown, and police are looking into it.
