Hockey players meet Jharkhand CM after selection in talent exchange programme

Ranchi, June 20: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Monday interacted with the five young woman hockey players of Jharkhand who have been selected for a three-week talent exchange programme at Middlebury College in Vermont, USA from June 24 to July 13.

The five selected players are Pundi Saru and Juhi Kumari from Khunti, Henrita Toppo and Poornima Neti from Simdega and Priyanka Kumari from Gumla.

The CM said that the state government has been committed to the development of sports and sportspersons in the state. Many schemes have been started in this regard. Special initiatives are being taken to identify talented players and hone their skills. Arrangements are being made for the best quality training of the players.

He added that all possible steps are being taken for this. Whatever the needs of the players are, they will be fulfilled. He stated that it is their endeavour that Jharkhand should emerge as a power in the world of sports and make a different identity in the country and the world.

The chief minister told the girls that when they come back from America, he will meet them and would like to know their experiences so that efforts can be made to get more such opportunities in the coming days. These girls also told the Chief Minister that they are very excited to participate in this program.

The five women hockey players have been selected for this program on the basis of their performance in the hockey training camp organised in the second edition of East India Women’s Hockey and Leadership Camp 2020.

The East India Hockey Project was launched in the year 2018 in collaboration with the US Consulate, Jharkhand Hockey Federation, South Eastern Railway, Jharkhand Police and Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs in partnership with.
