Patna, Sept 1: Bihar Minister Kartikeya Singh has resigned from his position, hours after being transferred from the Law Ministry to the Sugarcane Industry Ministry.
His resignation has been received and forwarded to the governor by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. According to the BJP, Kartikeya is suspected of being involved in an abduction case for which he is wanted.
Kartikeya, a controversial ex-Mokama MLA who is a member of the RJD, was reportedly appointed minister as part of Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav’s outreach to Bhunihars, a significant upper caste wholly supportive of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Singh, however, earlier denied any involvement in such a case.
“The first thing is that no such case against me. I have mentioned everything in my affidavit. Anyone who fights elections provides details about cases against them in the affidavit. Making an allegation and proving the allegation are two different things,” he said.
Additionally, according to the RJD leader’s attorneys, Singh was not the subject of any evidence uncovered during the police inquiry. Kartikeya Singh is not listed as an accused in the FIR, the attorney claimed, adding that it has been falsely reported that Singh has been evading capture in a kidnapping case.
