New Delhi, Dec 6: The Senior Women’s Cricket Team’s batting coach, Hrishikesh Kanitkar, was named by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday.
The forthcoming five-match T20I series against Australia, which begins on December 9 in Mumbai, will have Kanitkar as a member of the squad. The Indian women’s team for the upcoming five-match T20I series against Australia was previously unveiled by BCCI on Friday.
The first T20I between India and Australia will take place on December 9 at the D.Y. Patil Stadium, and the second T20I will follow on December 11 at the same location. The third, fourth, and fifth Twenty20 Internationals, which will be played on December 14, 17, and 20, respectively, will be played at Brabourne Stadium.
“Ramesh Powar, former Head Coach of the senior women’s team will join VVS Laxman, Head Cricket, National Cricket Academy and will switch to Men’s cricket as part of the restructuring module of the BCCI,” BCCI said in a statement.

“It is an honour to be appointed as the new Batting Coach of the Senior Women’s team. I see tremendous prospects in this team and we have a good mix of youth and experience. I believe this team is ready for the challenge ahead. We have a few marquee events coming up and it is going to be exciting for the team and myself as batting coach,” Hrishikesh Kanitkar said in an official statement released by BCCI.
Former Senior Women’s Team Head Coach Ramesh Powar will work alongside National Cricket Academy Head Coach VVS Laxman.
Star batter Smriti Mandhana will serve as Harmanpreet Kaur’s deputy as she leads the 15-member team. Yastika Bhatia and Richa Ghosh, two wicketkeepers for India, will play in the series. The T20I series versus Australia will take place in Mumbai at the D.Y. Patil Stadium and CCI.
The usual suspects, like Deepti Sharma, Shafali Verman, and Jemimah Rodrigues, made the cut. Rajeshwari Gaikwad, a spinner, is also mentioned on the list.
