New Delhi, Dec 24: Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister and Congress leader Harish Rawat said on Friday that he will lead the Congress’s campaign in the forthcoming Assembly elections in the state.

Rawat remarks came after his meeting with party leader Rahul Gandhi. Senior Congress leaders from the state, including Uttarakhand chief Ganesh Godiyal, CLP leader Pritam Singh, former state Congress chief Kishore Upadhyay, Yashpal Arya and Rajya Sabha MP Pradeep Tamta also met Rahul Gandhi along with Harish Rawat.

“Kadam, kadam badhaye ja, Congress ke geet gaye ja…I will be the face of election campaigning in Uttarakhand,” says Congress leader Harish Rawat after meeting of Uttarakhand Congress leaders with the party leadership at Rahul Gandhi’s residence in Delhi.

While he will be the face of the Congress, he will not be officially declared as the party’s Chief Ministerial candidate. After the elections, Congress President Sonia Gandhi will make a decision on the Chief Minister if the party is elected to power.

Rawat met Gandhi two days after making a veiled attack on the Congress leadership ahead of assembly polls in Uttarakhand over the lack of cooperation from the state unit.
