New Delhi: In a disturbing incident from Delhi’s Shakarpur area, a 30-year-old man was arrested for secretly installing spy cameras in the bedroom and bathroom of a female IAS aspirant. The accused, identified as Karan, the landlord’s son, was taken into custody after the woman discovered the hidden cameras and reported it to the police.
Discovery of Spy Cameras
The woman, who is preparing for the UPSC exams, became suspicious after noticing unusual activity on her WhatsApp account. Upon checking the linked devices on her account, she found that it had been accessed from an unknown laptop. This raised her suspicion, leading her to thoroughly search her apartment. To her shock, she discovered a spy camera hidden inside the bulb holder of her bathroom.
She immediately contacted the police, who arrived at the scene and conducted a search. Another hidden camera was found in the bulb holder of her bedroom.
Exploitation of Trust
The woman revealed that she often trusted Karan with her house keys when she was away. Karan admitted during interrogation that he had installed the spy cameras three months earlier, while the woman was visiting her hometown in Uttar Pradesh. He used her trust, repeatedly asking for her house keys under the pretext of fixing electrical fixtures, to retrieve the recorded footage stored on the cameras’ memory cards.
Arrest and Investigation
The police have seized one spy camera and two laptops containing recorded videos from Karan’s possession. He had been preparing for competitive exams for the past seven years but had not been successful. An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the law, and Karan has been arrested for his involvement in the case.
The incident has raised concerns about privacy invasion and the safety of women, particularly in rented accommodations in metropolitan cities like Delhi.
