New Delhi, Feb 11: The International Cricket Council on February 11 fined Ravindra Jadeja 25% of his match money and docked him 1 demerit point for using the cream on his finger while bowling in the first of a four-match Test series against Australia.

The match referee, however, came to the conclusion that the cream was administered for medical reasons only and that it was not an attempt to use an artificial material to change the ball’s condition (ball tampering).

Indian spinner Ravindra Jadej was fined for applying cream on ball during the ongoing test match.

According to the ICC, Ravindra Jadeja received a fine and a demerit point because he applied cream to his finger without asking the on-field umpires’ permission. Jadeja was accused of violating the ICC Code of Conduct at Level 1.

The management of the India squad had stated that the finger spinner was using the lotion to treat a swelling on his bowling hand’s index finger. Notably, Jadeja was taking part in his debut Test match after missing nearly 6 months due to a knee injury.

“Ravindra Jadeja was found to have breached Article 2.20 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to displaying conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game,” the ICC said in a release.
