Dhanbad, Sept 6: A three-member team of Mahendramuni Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir, Madhupur, Deoghar has innovated a model of firefighting drone in the final round of Jharkhand Schools Innovation Challenge contest 2023 under progress at IIT ISM Dhanbad.

The Madhupur School team comprising class IX students, Aman Kumar, Anshu Kumar and Roshan Kumar is working on models of two projects, a Firefighting Drone and an Army Security Camp System, that have become the centre of attraction in the innovation competition.

Ten school teams from across the state have qualified in the final round of this Innovation Challenge contest and are working on their project.

Aman  Kumar said that the idea to develop the Fire Fighting Drone came to mind after an incident of a major fire took place in a school in Deoghar about four to five months ago.

Rattled by the incident the trio teamed up together and started working on the project about two months ago.

“The entire cost of developing the drone equipped with the water sprinkling system at its base is merely around Rs 14,000 as we have used the locally available 2200 mAh battery and similar other equipments to carry out power supply to the drone,” said Anshu Kumar, another student of the school.

He added that the experts of IIT ISM are helping them with technical inputs and logistical supplies to turn their idea into reality.

The third student of the team, Roshan Kumar. highly appreciated the available infrastructure of IIT ISM to work on models.

Ramesh Prasad, technical officer of NVCTI, IIT ISM, who is supervising the project work of participating schools’ team said that the concept of a firefighting drone being developed by the team of Deoghar school is quite innovative and the imagination in the form of a project is also quite praiseworthy.

Rajen Dasgupta, executive officer of NVCTI said, “The best part of drone project is that it works on the application of Artificial Intelligence”.

Besides the Deoghar school, the DAV Public School Koylanagar team is working on the Ponds, Rivers Cleaner project; Savitri Devi DAV Public School Namupara, Jamtara is working on the Automated Accident Detection and Rescue system.

Dasgupta said that all the ideas are basically ready to be developed on a commercial scale.
