Dhanbad, Sept 7: A three-member team of  DAV Public School Barkakana, Ramgarh has created a ripple in the ongoing Jharkhand School Innovation Challenge contest at IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad by innovating the model of a solar power-based pond/river cleaner.

The school team comprising Divyash Singh, Aryan Kumar Soni and Aditya Singh (all class X students)  explaining their innovation said that the solar power operated pond cleaner equipped with a water treatment plant will float in the water body round the clock.

“The conveyor belt attached at the anterior portion of the boat will collect water and send it to the water treatment plant where pure water will be generated while waste products will be collected,” said Pramila Sinha, a teacher of the school.

“The advantage of ponds/rivers cleaner is it’s cost efficiency as well as lesser human intervention as it will be operated through a mobile app and thus being comparatively safer,” said Aditya Singh, a member of the team.

IIT ISM Naresh Vashisht Centre for Tinkering and Innovation (NVCTI) executive officer Ranjan Dasgupta said that besides Barkakana school, a three-member team of Savitri Devi DAV Public School Jamtara also drew the attention of experts in the competition with the innovation of Automatic Accident Detection and Rescue System.

The Jamtara school team comprising Supriyo Roy, Aman Kumar and Anirban Bhattacharya (all class XI students)  has developed a multiple sensor-equipped Automated Accident Detection Rescue System.

Team of Jamtara School

The Jamtara school team members working on their model of Automated Accident Detection and Rescue system claimed that temperature sensors, alcohol sensors and eye blink sensors can help to detect not only accidents but also cases of drunken driving, fire caused in vehicle after the accident or sabotage, the driver taking nap while driving.

Aman Kumar, one of the team members of the Jamtara school said, “Sensors fitted in the vehicles will send the signals to the nearby hospitals or police station during the time of accident prompting the authorities to take necessary action”.

In the contest organised by IIT ISM, altogether 10 teams have been selected for the grand finale that began on September  4. The selected schools are working on their project and winners of the contest will be awarded.
