Dhanbad, Sept 8: Prof Mrinal Kanti Mukherjee, the head of the department of Applied Geology at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad has been conferred with the prestigious award of Mining, Geological and Metallurgical Institute of India (MGMI) for 2022-23.
An IIT ISM official said that Prof Mukherjee has been given this award for his excellence in mineral engineering and earth science.
Prof M.K. Mukherjee has significantly contributed to the field of application of structural geology and engineering geology in understanding earth’s processes and mineral exploration.
“Besides, Prof Mukherjee has greatly contributed to industry and professional organizations in terms of consultancy services and capacity building. The award is in recognition of Prof. Mukherjee’s contribution to education, research, industry and society,” said the IIT ISM official.
The award will be given to Prof Mukherjee on September 23 at the Taj City Centre, New Town, Kolkata.
A PhD degree holder of Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), Kolkata, Prof Mukherjee’s area of expertise lies in Structural Geology in Exploration and Engineering Geology, Deformation of Proterozoic Basins.
