Dhanbad, Sept 4: The final round of Jharkhand Schools Innovation Challenge contest began here at IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) today.
An IIT ISM official said that 40 young innovators of 10 remote schools across the state are participating to execute their innovative ideas into reality.
Altogether 250 ideas of 150 schools teams were put up in the contest in which ideas of 10 schools were selected for the final round which began today.
The selected 10 schools of the state are DBMS English School Jamshedpur, DAV Public School Koylanagar Dhanbad, DAV Public School Barkakana, DAV Public School Giridih, Savitri Devi DAV Public School Jamtara, SDSM School for Excellence East Singhbhum, Delhi Public School Bokaro, Hill Top School East Singhbhum, Loyola School Jamshedpur, mahendra Muni Saraswati Shishu Vidyamandir Madhupur Deoghar.
While inaugurating the final round of contest, IIT ISM director Prof JK Pattanayak said that the selection of 10 schools out of 150 of the state speaks volumes about their talent. “ You will get necessary guidance and support to execute your innovation ideas into reality in contest,” he said.
The director also informed the students about the innovation being carried out at Naresh Vashisht Centre Tinkering and Innovation (NVCTI), TEXMiN.
Prof Dheeraj Kumar, deputy director, said that IIT ISM has been organizing the Jharkhand Schools Innovation Challenge contest every year for the last three years to help and provide a platform to hidden talent to execute their scientific ideas into a reality.
Acting dean ( innovation , incubation and entrepreneurs Prof Pankaj Mishra gave in details of the innovation activities being carried out by undergraduate students at different state of art labs of NVCTI.
NVCTI executive officer Rajen Dasgupta briefed the participants about week-long schedule of the contest.
The first three winners will get cash prize of Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. Consolation prize of Rs 10,000 would be also given to 4th and 5th position team.
