Dhanbad, Sept 22: The research recommendations of IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad’s senior professor Dr Rajni Singh on transgenders’ inclusion at workplaces would be implemented in all regional offices of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India.
Chief Labour Commissioner (Central), New Delhi has directed all regional heads to issue directives to heads of their respective establishments, departments and offices for implementing the recommendations made by Dr Rajni Singh on transgenders’ inclusion.
National Human Right Commission (NHRC) had assigned a project to Dr Rajni Singh, senior professor department of the Human and Social Science department of IIT Indian School of Mines to research Transgender inclusion.
After Dr Singh submitted her research recommendation to the concerned agency, the ministry of labour and employment department issued her recommendation to all regional heads for implementation in the interest of transgenders.
Since transgenders are considered the sufferers of gender dysphoria and have remained a marginalized community in India, NHRC assigned the project to Dr Singh for research to provide impetus to improve their status in society and to provide a better working environment.
Dr Rajni Singh made several recommendations in the research report, including the creation of transgender-inclusive workplace sexual harassment policies, the organisation of frequent gender sensitization programmes with a special focus on the protection of transgender rights, and the issuance of political advisory to the gender sensitization cell at work so that it can function effectively and protect transgender rights rather than acting as a dominant body.
