Dhanbad, June 20: Harsh Kumar, a student of the petroleum engineering department and Saloni Kumar of the mining engineering department were declared champions in the boys and girls categories respectively in the IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Open Yoga Competition.
In the boys section, Jitu Barupal of the mechanical engineering department and Harsh Kumar Gupta of the petroleum engineering department bagged second and third prizes respectively in the competition.
In the girl students category after Saloni Kumar, Ushoshi Saha and Roma Singh of the mechanical engineering department bagged the second and third positions respectively.
An IIT ISM official said winners of the Open Yoga competition would be given awards on the occasion of International Yoga Day on June 21. The open competition was organized on June 11 and the organizer announced the results today.
A total of six categories, including boys and girls students, child male, child female, faculty/ staff male and female were organized. DN Acharya, physical education and sports teacher of IIT (ISM) said that the practice for the Yoga session started about a month back while the open yoga competition was held on June 11.
He said that the function of International Day of Yoga would kick start at 6 a.m. in the lower ground of the institute on June 21. More than 500 participants will be provided a souvenir/apparel bearing International Day for Yoga Logo on a first come and first serve basis.
In other categories of competition – Children (Male)- Shreyansh Kumar (son of Neru Kumari) won the first prize while Prakash and Rakesh (sons of ACS Rao) won the second and third spots respectively. The fourth place in this category was bagged by Mayank Mahto son of Vijay Kumar Mahto.
In the Children (Female) Category, Ananya Sanjeevani (daughter of Uttam Kumar) won the first prize while the second position went to Shreya Kumari (daughter of Neru Kumari).
Among the Faculty/Staff male category, Sourav Debnath (central) emerged as champion while Sharvan Singh (New Lecture Hall Complex) and SP Tiwari emerged second and third respectively.
In the Faculty/Staff female category – Subhashree Pradhan of the mining engineering department emerged as champion while Nilu Kumari (Office of Dean IRAA) and Monalisa Nayak (Central Library) bagged second and third prizes respectively.
