Jamshedpur, Aug 2: Several isolated pockets in north-western and central parts of Jharkhand is expected to experience heavy rain today, said a weather bulletin issued by IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre today.
According to weathermen, thunder and lightning accompanied by rain are also expected at a few places today.
The monsoon trough at mean sea level was today passing through Amritsar, Bareilly, Bahraich and thence eastwards along the foothills of the Himalayas.
The local forecast for Ranchi indicated a generally cloudy sky with moderate rain or thundershowers.
The spectre of drought looms large in several districts in northeastern and northwestern Jharkhand due to poor monsoon rain this year.
As of today, the state’s rain deficit stood at 48 per cent. Against a normal of 517 mm, the state has so far received 266.8 mm resulting in such a large rain deficit.
