Jamshedpur, May 19: IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre issued an alert of Nor’wester activity in several isolated pockets of Jharkhand today.
The Meteorological Centre also issued an alert for heat waves in isolated pockets.
Weathermen said thunderstorm and lightning accompanied by strong surface wind (speed: 30-40 kmph) is likely to occur at isolated places over northeastern, southern and adjoining central parts of the state.
IMD officials urged people not to venture out and also not to take shelter under trees during the Nor’wester activity.
Satellite pictures suggested that a trough runs from the cyclonic circulation over East Uttar Pradesh to Telangana across East Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha at 0.9 km above the mean sea level.
Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms occurred at isolated places while heat waves, hailstorms and gusty wind were also reported at one or two places over Jharkhand during the past 24 hours.
The highest rainfall recorded was 47.2 mm at Rajmahal (Sahibganj).
The highest maximum temperature of 43.3°C was recorded at Daltonganj and Jamshedpur while the lowest minimum temperature of 19.2°C was recorded at Godda.
The highest gusty wind with a speed of 96.2 Kmph was recorded at Godda.
