Jamshedpur, June 30: IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre issued a forecast of thunderstorms and lightning in isolated areas of Jharkhand today.
Weathermen said that an east-west trough passing through Jharkhand is expected to trigger thunderstorms and lightning in isolated areas today.
The same trough had resulted in thunderstorms, lightning and rain at several places across Jharkhand last evening.
The local Meteorological centre in Jamshedpur recorded over 20 mm of rain last evening. The torrential rain inundated several low-lying areas and even important thoroughfares affecting traffic movement. The rainwater entered the house in several localities.
Statistics revealed that so far in June, Jamshedpur recorded 67 mm of rain while the capital Ranchi witnessed 98 mm of rain. Chaibasa in adjoining West Singhbhum experienced 146 mm of rain in June while Daltonganj and Bokaro received 72 mm and 85 mm rain respectively in June.
The state’s rain deficit came down to 47 per cent. Against a normal of 181.4 mm of rain, the state as a whole has so far received 96.5 mm of rain.
The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) continues to pass through Lat. 29.4°N / Long. 70.7°E, Bikaner, Narnaul, Firozpur and Lat. 32.5°N/ Long. 72.5°E.
The east-west trough was today passing through northwest Rajasthan, east Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal and thence eastwards towards Nagaland extending up to 1.5 Km above mean sea level.
