Ranchi, Nov 15: Earlier, students who wanted to pursue a career as a doctor or engineer used to prepare for medical and engineering exams after completing their class 12 exams. Then there was a phase when students started to join career coaching as soon as they joined the intermediate studies in class 11 to prepare for medical and engineering.
However, with growing competition, many students have also started to prepare for these examinations even before writing their class 10 exams. In this article, we will take a look at the important olympiads and exams for students of classes 8 to 10 that may help them to crack medical and engineering exams.
National Talent Search Exam (NTSE)
Only students in the tenth grade are eligible to take the National Talent Search Exam (NTSE), which is divided into Stage I and Stage II. All Indian states and UTs jointly administer the state-level first stage exam. On the other hand, students who pass the first stage of the NTSE are given the opportunity to take stage II.

The goal of the NTSE is to give scholarships to eligible applicants who want to pursue higher education in the social sciences or the sciences. Students will be able to continue their studies in the field of their choice thanks to these scholarships. The NTSE scholarship will be given based on the student’s total achievement in both parts of the exam.
IOQJS (Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Junior Science)
IOQJS or Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Junior Science is the opening round of the international science Olympics. It is a two-paper, three-hour test that typically takes place in January. The IOQJS, which is administered by the IAPT and HBCSE as a combination of two competitive examinations, combines the Indian National Olympiad (INO) and the National Standard Examination (NSE) (NSE).
The primary objective of the Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Junior Science (IOQJS) exam is to encourage pupils to assess their science abilities by competing in an international competition. We go into further detail regarding the IOQJS 2021–2022 here.
Eligibility
- Candidates must have been born between January 1, 2006, and December 31, 2007.
- Academic Requirements: Applicants must have studied in India since November 30, 2018 or before. Before November 30, 2020, they must not have finished their 10th Boards or any other similar test. Candidates who have been enrolled in any Indian school system since November 2018 or before are also eligible for the IOQJS.
- Candidates wishing to compete in the Indian Olympiad Junior Science Qualifier must have resided in India from November 2018 or before.
- They must be able to obtain an Indian passport. Students who are Overseas Citizens of India would not be eligible for selection to the team representing India in International Olympiads, according to a recent notification from the Madras High Court.
- Candidates who want to compete in IOQJS should not be taking IOQA, IOQP, IOQC, or IOQB in the same year.
Aryabhatta National Maths Competition
The “Aryabhatta National Mathematics Competition 2022” has been announced by the All-India Council for Technical Skill Development.
The goal of AICTSD is to support and cultivate student leaders across the nation, and one of its initiatives is the Aryabhatta National Maths Competition.
Technology, which depends on mathematics, is a prerequisite for everything. All innovations, whether they be in technology or medicine, are built on mathematics. Nothing is possible without mathematical analysis.
AGC NEST
The National Entrance Scholarship Test (NEST) is administered by the Amritsar Group of Colleges (AGC NEST) (AGC). The organisation gives applicants for the professions of engineering, management, pharmacy, and law the chance to enrol in the most coveted college in North India through AGC NEST.
Three colleges make up AGC. These include Amritsar Pharmacy College (APC), Amritsar College of Engineering & Technology (ACET), and the recently established Amritsar Law College. Students can register for this entrance exam and scholarship by completing a brief online registration form. To register with AGC NEST 2022, a registration fee must be paid online.
