Islamabad, March 14: PTI supporters had congregated outside of party leader Imran Khan’s Zaman Park mansion in Lahore on Tuesday when Islamabad police fired tear gas and a water cannon to scatter them.
Television footage showed police advancing cautiously towards the house behind an armoured car that was using a water cannon to scatter PTI supporters. Moreover, supporters could be seen throwing rocks towards the cops.
A senior Islamabad police official refrained from commenting on the matter in which officials were acting against the PTI chairman shortly after 2pm, when armoured police cars had arrived outside Imran’s Zaman Park mansion in Lahore with the purpose of detaining him.
The current development comes a day after Imran was once more issued arrest warrants by an Islamabad district and sessions court after he repeatedly avoided court appearances in the Toshakhana case. The former premier must appear in court by March 18 according to a court order and police directive.
After the police used force, PTI’s Shah Mahmood Qureshi told the reporters outside Zaman Park that he had come to speak with the Islamabad DIG (Operations).
In contrast to his earlier comments to the media, in which he claimed Imran was actually in Zaman Park, the PTI leader said Imran was not inside. Aleema Khanum, Imran’s sister, also confirmed to the media that Imran was in his home.
