New Delhi, Feb 21: Cricket Australia (CA) announced on Tuesday that Australia’s opener David Warner would not be participating in the remaining matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Warner missed the final six wickets of the second Test in Delhi due to a concussion and was replaced by Matt Renshaw. While batting in the first innings of the Test against India bowler Mohammed Siraj, Warner was struck on the side of the helmet grille.
After being elbowed by a short pitch from Siraj, the left-hander was struck. Warner was forced to miss the final two Test matches in Indore and Ahmedabad after X-rays later indicated he had suffered a hairline fracture.
Warner is anticipated to make a comeback for the three-match ODI series later in March, according to the CA.
Josh Hazlewood, a fast bowler for Australia, was ruled out of the series on Monday due to Achilles pain, dealing another injury blow to the team. Although Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green continue to heal from finger injuries, captain Pat Cummins also took a flight back home for personal reasons.
Vice-captain Steve Smith is anticipated to lead the Australians in the event that Cummins is unable to play in the third Test, which starts on March 1. After gaining a commanding 2-0 lead to defend the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India picked an unchanged lineup for the third and fourth Tests.
