Mount Maunganui, March 6: scored 244/7 in 50 overs against Pakistan on Sunday, with Pooja Vastrakar (67) and Sneh Rana (53*). After India was reduced to 114/6, Vastrakar and Rana embarked on a 122-run partnership to not only get them out of difficulty, but also to shatter record after record to put India in command at the innings break.
The pair now holds the record for the highest seventh-wicket partnership in the women’s world cup. Earlier in the game, Pakistan destabilized the Indian innings by getting four quick wickets: Deepti Sharma (40), Smriti Mandhana (52), Harmanpreet Kaur (5), and Richa Ghosh (1).
Mandhana and Deepti had put up 92 runs for the second wicket, but Deepti’s removal by Nashra Sandhu opened the way for Pakistan to make a dramatic comeback. Following the early removal of Shafali (0), Mandhana had produced her 21st half-century as she fought the perilous beginning section of the innings. Nida Dar and Nashra Sandhu each got two wickets for Pakistan, while Diana Beg, Anam Amin, and Fatima Sana each took one wicket. After winning the toss, India elected to bat.
