New Delhi, Feb 23: Deepak Chahar and Suryakumar Yadav, both Indian fast bowlers, have been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka. The players will travel to Bengaluru’s National Cricket Academy for further treatment of their ailments.
Suryakumar has been ruled out due to a hairline fracture in his hand. The 31-year-old hitter sustained the injury while fielding against the West Indies in the third and final T20I match.
Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant have been rested for the series, while Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shreyas Iyer will get a chance to prove their batting skills in their absence. Sanju Samson is another member of the Indian team.
Ravindra Jadeja returns to the hosts’ camp after recovering from an injury that kept him out of the Test series against New Zealand.
Due to a hamstring issue, Chahar will also miss the T20I series. In the third T20I against the West Indies, he took two early wickets before pulling up in his second over. He ultimately made his way off the field to seek medical attention.
Chahar is currently with Chennai Super Kings, but it is unclear whether he will be fit for the IPL, which is set to begin in the last week of March.
“Deepak sustained a right quadriceps injury during bowling while Suryakumar suffered a hairline fracture during a fielding attempt in the third and final T20I against the West Indies in Kolkata on Sunday,” said an official release.
Three T20I series will be played between India and Sri Lanka, followed by Test series. On Thursday, the T20I series will take place in Lucknow.
