New Delhi, Feb 5: India’s limited-overs captain Rohit Sharma revealed on Saturday that Ishan Kishan will open the innings with him in the first One-Day International against the West Indies on Sunday.
While KL Rahul has been added to the squad for the second ODI, Shikhar Dhawan and Ruturaj Gaikwad have tested positive for Covid-19 and are being held in quarantine in Ahmedabad. Because the substitute player, Mayank Agarwal, is still in quarantine, Kishan will start alongside Rohit in the opening game.
With Mayank Agarwal remaining in obligatory quarantine, India captain Rohit Sharma declared in a press conference on the eve of the first match that “Ishan Kishan is the only choice” for the opening slot.
“Unless there is an injury of course. We have a training today.,” Rohit said on Saturday.
After seven players, including four players — Shreyas Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Navdeep Saini (standby) — tested positive for Covid-19 after arriving in Ahmedabad, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) added batsman Mayank Agarwal to India’s ODI team on Wednesday.
