New Delhi, Dec 18: India took the lead as the KL Rahul-led team defeated Bangladesh by 188 runs in the opening test of the ongoing two-test series on Sunday in Chattogram.

After starting the day on 272 for 6, Bangladesh added 52 runs in 11.2 overs and lost four wickets in the morning session, needing 513 runs to win. It was simply a matter of concluding the formalities for India as Axar Patel got three wickets near the conclusion of the fourth day to bring the visitors closer to victory.

India took a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series after winning the game on Day 5 in just 49 minutes. While Bangladesh fought valiantly in the fourth innings of this Test match, they were eventually unable to overcome the challenge.

On Sunday’s final day, Bangladesh needed another 241 runs, but captain Shakib Al Hasan (batting 40) was determined to postpone the inevitable. On Day 5, the hosts did, however, lose Mehidy Hasan Miraz (13) to Mohammed Siraj shortly after starting their innings.
