In retaliation for US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s recent trip to Taiwan, China began extensive military exercises in the vicinity of Taiwan.
“In the context of India & China, we have consistently maintained the necessity of mutual respect, mutual sensitivity & mutual interest, as the basis of the development of ties,” said Arindam Bagchi, Spokesperson, Ministry of External Affairs.
“We urge the exercise of restraint, avoidance of unilateral actions to change status quo, de-escalation of tensions and efforts to maintain peace and stability in the region,” he added.
