New Delhi, April 6: The United Nations announced that India has contributed USD 150,000 to the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF) for 2022, pledging to help the Fund in complementing other UN efforts to improve democratic government around the world, Permanent Mission of India to the UN said in a press release.

According to the press statement, the UN Secretariat received a check to that effect on March 30, 2022.

As a long-standing member of the UNDEF’s ultimate governing body, the Advisory Board, India plays a vital role in the organisation. India has contributed more than USD 32 million to the fund since its inception. India is also the third-largest contributor, demonstrating the country’s dedication to democratic values.

“India acknowledges that sustained support for UNDEF is particularly important in this crucial time for democracy efforts worldwide. India expresses steadfast support for UNDEF as it plays a distinct role in complementing other UN efforts to strengthen democratic governance around the world,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, India donated USD 500,000 to UN Women, the UN organisation for gender equality and women’s empowerment, for their core budget on Saturday.
