New Delhi, May 27: With cases of monkeypox being reported around the world, an official from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) stated on Friday that India is prepared in the case of an increase in infections in non-endemic nations. However, no cases have been confirmed in India so far.
“India is prepared for the infections as it is rapidly spreading in non-endemic countries like Europe, USA and others. However, no cases have been reported in India so far,” Dr Aparna Mukherjee, Scientist E, ICMR said to ANI.
The health expert also advised that anyone with a history of travel to monkeypox-infected nations keep a close eye on unusual symptoms.
“We should observe the unusual symptoms like high fever, a lot of lymphadenopathies, large lymph nodes, body ache, rashes, etc, especially those who have travel history from infected countries,” Dr Mukherjee said.
She went on to say that people should not be alarmed and should avoid intimate contact with someone who tests positive for monkeypox.
Notably, the United States, the United Kingdom, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Australia, Canada, Austria, the Canary Islands, Israel, and Switzerland have all reported the cases.
