New Delhi, Jan 8: The data released by Union Health Ministry on Saturday morning showed that India documented 1,41,986 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, up 21.3% from yesterday.
The overall number of cases in the country is 3,53,68,372.
Maharashtra leads the way with 40,925 cases, followed by West Bengal (18,213 cases), Delhi (17,335 cases), Tamil Nadu (8,981 cases), and Karnataka (8,449).
These five states are responsible for 66.14% of all new Covid-19 cases, with Maharashtra alone accounting for 28.82%.
285 Covid-related deaths have been recorded in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of documented deaths to 4,83,463.
Kerala had the most casualties (189), followed by Maharashtra with 20 daily deaths.
The recovery rate in India is now at 97.3 percent. In the last 24 hours, a total of 40,895 Covid-19 patients have recovered, bringing the overall number of recoveries to 3,44,12,740 across the country.
The number of active Covid-19 cases in India is 4,72,169. Active Covid-19 cases increased by 1,00,806 in the last 24 hours.
In the last 24 hours, India has administered a total of 90,59,360 doses of Covid-19 vaccine, bringing the total number of doses administered to 1,50,61,92,903.
In the last 24 hours, a total of 15,29,948 samples were tested for Covid-19.
In the meantime, India has reported 64 new instances of the Omicron strain in the last 24 hours. With this, Omicron’s total caseload in India has increased to 3,071, with 1,203 cases recovered.
