New Delhi, June 16: India recorded 12,213 new cases on Thursday, the largest daily increase since late February this year, bringing the total number of cases to 43,257,730. When compared to the day before, when 8,822 instances were reported, there has been a 38.4 percent increase. According to data from the Ministry of Health, the country’s active caseload is now 58,215 cases, accounting for 0.13 percent of all cases.
The two states with the largest increases in the country are Maharashtra and Kerala. Kerala saw 3,488 new illnesses, while Maharashtra saw 4,024 new cases. In addition, the two states have the most overall cases. Delhi, too, has seen an alarming increase.
On Wednesday, the Covid-19 tally in the national capital increased by more than 1,000 new infections for the second day in a row, with as many as 1,375 patients testing positive in only 24 hours.
The recent Covid increase in India has generated fears of a fourth wave, but specialists have pointed to low hospitalisation and death rates. Although a major portion of the country has been properly vaccinated, states have been advised to remain vigilant.
A total of 11 deaths have been reported across India in the previous 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 5,24,803 since the pandemic began. In the meantime, the recovery rate is currently at 98.65%.
Meanwhile, 195.67 crore doses of vaccination have been administered in India. For the age group of 12 to 14, over 3.54 crore first doses and over 2.02 crore second doses have been provided. The 15 to 18 age group has received over 5.99 crore first doses and over 4.73 crore second doses. Those over the age of 60, healthcare workers, and frontline workers have received around 3.64 crore prophylactic doses (booster shots).
