India reports 71,365 new Covid cases, active cases drop to 8.9 lakh

New Delhi, Feb 9: India reported 71,365 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours  taking the country’s total tally of COVID-19 cases to 4,24,10,976, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday.

The active cases of the country declined to 8,92,828. With 1,217 fresh fatalities in the last 24 hours, the death count climbed to 5,05,279, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The active cases comprise 2.11 per cent of the total infections, while the national recovery rate has improved to 96.70 per cent, the ministry said.

Over the course of 24 hours, the active COVID-19 caseload was reduced by 1,02,063 cases.

On August 7, 2020, India’s COVID-19 tally surpassed 20 lakh, followed by 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5, and 50 lakh on September 16. It exceeded the 60 lakh level on September 28, the 70 lakh mark on October 11, the 80 lakh mark on October 29, the 90 lakh mark on November 20, and the one-crore mark on December 19. Last year, India passed the two-crore mark on May 4 and the three-crore mark on June 23.

Meanwhile, India has administered a total of 53,61,099 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, which brings the total tally of doses administered to 1,70,87,06,705. In addition to this, a total of 15,71,726 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
