New Delhi, Dec 5: India has reported 8,895 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours and 2,796 deaths across the country, informed Union Health Ministry on Sunday.
As per health ministry, the spike in deaths was reported as 2,426 reconciled deaths reported by Bihar were adjusted in Sunday’s database. Kerala also cleared a backlog of 263 deaths hence deaths showing a spike.
With this, the cumulative death toll has now reached 4,73,326. The active caseload saw a fall and reached 99,155. The active cases accounts for less than 1% of total cases and is currently at 0.29%, the lowest since March 2020.
In the last 24 hours, as many as 6,918 people recovered from Covid-19, taking the total number of recoveries to 34,060,774. The recovery rate is currently at 98.35%, the data also showed.
According to the ministry, the daily positivity rate is 0.73%. It remained less than 2 % for the last 62 days. The weekly positivity rate remained below 1% for the last 21 days and was recorded at 0.80%.
Meanwhile, the number of people infected with the Omicron variant of the Covid-19 reached four on Saturday after two more people tested positive for the new strain.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 12,26,064 samples were tested on Saturday. Total 64,72,52,850 samples have been tested up to December 4, to detect the presence of infection.
In the ongoing nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive 127.61 crore vaccine doses have been administered to the eligible beneficiaries.
