New Delhi, Dec 23: India successfully testified the ‘Pralay’ surface-to-surface ballistic missile off the coast of Odisha second time in the last 24 hours. Earlier, India successfully testified the ‘Pralay’ surface-to-surface ballistic missile off the coast of Odisha on Wednesday.
This solid-fuel, battlefield missile is developed by Defence Research Development Organisation. It is based on Prithvi Defence Vehicle from the Indian ballistic missile programme.
This is the first time in history that consecutive flight tests of a ballastic missile have been conducted sucessfully on two consecutive days.
“The flight test was successful and has met all the mission objectives. This launch proves the system in both the configurations of the missile,” said DRDO.
Pralay can be fired from a mobile launcher, and its guidance system includes state-of-the-art Navigation System and Integrated Avionics, officials informed.
Notably, in March 2015, the project to construct this missile was approved with a budget of about 333 crore. The weapon is based on the Indian Ballistic Missile Defence Program’s Prithvi Defence Vehicle. The ministry informed that the missile is powered by a solid-propellant rocket motor and many new technologies. The missile has a range of 150-500 kilometers and can be launded from a mobile launcher.
