Notably on Saturday, General Manoj Pande became the 29th Chief of the Army Staff. He is the first Corps of Engineers officer to command the 1.3 million-strong military.
Gen Pande was the head of the Eastern Army Command before becoming Vice Chief of the Army on February 1, responsible for guarding the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh sectors.
Gen Pande assumed command of the Indian Army at a time when the country faces numerous security difficulties, particularly along the Line of Control and the Line of Actual Control with Pakistan and China, respectively. He would also have to communicate with the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force on the government’s aim to implement theatre command as Army Chief.
In addition to this, Lt General KJS Dhillon (retired) receives Param Vishisht Seva Medal from President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhawan.
