Jammu, Sep 18: The Army has received 600 “Vibhav” self-neutralizing anti-tank mines made in the country to offer mobility kill against any hostile armored vehicles, according to officials on Monday.

They said that because the anti-tank mine is composed of modern plastic, it has sufficient strength and durability to endure the demands of storage, handling, and operation in a variety of field situations.

“It (the ‘Vibhav’ anti-tank mine) is already in production. It has been completed. It is now in demand. It has been inducted into the Indian Army. Six hundred mines have been inducted (recently),” an official of the manufacturing company said.

“Vibhav” is a point-attack anti-tank munition that was entirely designed and developed domestically in a joint venture with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in India, officials stated.

They stated that the mines are made to deliver a mobility kill against all opposing armoured vehicles.

“Made from new age plastic, the mines have adequate strength and durability to withstand the requirements of storage, handling and operating in varying field conditions,” the official mentioned above said.

He further said that the munition might be deployed manually or mechanically.

The “Vibhav” has a variety of safety and actuation features to make it reliable, lethal against targets and safe to handle, according to the officials.

The integrated explosive, mechanical and electronic safety features, they continued, guarantee the highest level of operator safety.

On the other side, the officials said that the munition’s lethality guaranteed its efficiency against all present-day and future armoured vehicles.

They added that the munition includes an electronic anti-handling and anti-lift device (EAHALD) that, once armed, is operational for 120 days.

“We have made three changes in this mine. It has mechanical timers now. Due to this, after 120 days, it will be self-neutralised. It was not available in the earlier mines,” one of the officials said.

Kalyani Group is manufacturing the munition for the Indian Army. He stated that it has a 10-year shelf life and no unique storage needs.
