Ranchi, April 16: The opening day of the 9th Indian Open Race-Walking Competition saw athletes from all over the country take part in the event. A total of 64 athletes took part on Saturday in the 20 km Men and Women category.
Indian Athlete Sandeep Kumar from Haryana secured the first position in the Men’s 20 km Group A by completing the race in 1:22:05. He was followed by Akshdeep Singh and Paramjeet Singh Bisht who secured second and third positions respectively.
Mukesh Nitharwal from Rajasthan won the race in the Men’s 20 km Group A by finishing the race in 1:31:12. Sahil from Haryana and Vishant Rana from Uttarakhand secured the second and third positions.
In the Women’s 20 Km Group A, Ravina from Haryana completed the race in 1:31:52 and secured the top position whereas Bhawana Jat and Sonal Sukhwal from Rajasthan ended up at the second and third positions respectively.
Preeti from Haryana won the race in the Women’s 20 Km Group B as she completed the race in 1:48:05. She was accompanied by Monika from Haryana and Shameena Khatoon from Uttar Pradesh who finished at second and third places.
The race for other categories will be held during the wee hours of Sunday and the remaining athletes will be taking part in it.
