London, Dec 9: Indian High Commissioner to the UK Vikram Doraiswami, on Thursday presented his credentials to King Charles III at Buckingham Palace in London, calling it a ‘very special moment’ for him and his wife. Vikram Doraiswami is the first Indian envoy to be received at the palace by King Charles since the death of Queen Elizabeth.

“A blink of the eye for a great nation. A moment that has and will be repeated by other, better, reps. And yet, a very special moment for my wife and I, as we follow three ancestors to serve with the greatest pride, an Incredibly, heartstoppingly, remarkable India,” Vikram Doraiswami tweeted.

The ceremony on Thursday steeped in tradition involves a horse-drawn carriage, which conveyed the High Commissioner and his wife, Sangeeta, from their official residence to the palace. They were also accompanied by Deputy High Commissioner Sujit Ghosh and senior officials and concluded the journey with the ceremonial feeding of the horses with carrots.
On December 7, Vikram Doraiswami held a meeting with UK’s Deputy National Security Adviser for International Affairs Sarah MacIntosh where both sides discussed bilateral relations and global challenges faced by the world.
The Buckingham Palace also informed that King Charles III held audiences with incoming High Commissioners and Ambassadors. “Today The King held Audiences for incoming High Commissioners and Ambassadors: His Excellency Mr Vikram Doraiswami, High Commissioner for the Republic of India. His Excellency Mr Eitvydas Bajarunas, Ambassador from the Republic of Lithuania,” Buckingham Palace tweeted.
The High Commissioner also confirmed that the next round of India-UK free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations remain on track, with the trade officials team from the UK set to travel to New Delhi next week.
