Paris: Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat has been disqualified from the Paris Olympics after being found overweight on the day of her 50 kg gold medal bout. Sources reveal that Phogat was 100 grams over the permissible limit, which has cost her a chance at a podium finish. As a result, the 50 kg category will only feature gold and bronze medalists, with Phogat being ineligible for both.

The official announcement is expected later today. Although Phogat met the weight requirement for her earlier bouts, wrestlers must adhere to their weight category on both days of the competition. Reports indicate that Phogat was nearly two kilograms over the limit on Tuesday night.

Despite her rigorous efforts, including an entire night of jogging, skipping, and cycling to shed weight, the Indian delegation’s request for additional time was denied. Phogat has previously struggled with maintaining weight in the 50 kg category, which is below her usual 53 kg competition weight.
