New Delhi: India’s Covid-19 situation has seen a fresh uptick, with the active case tally reaching 3,758 and 363 new infections recorded in the last 24 hours. The surge, though modest, marks the first noticeable rise in cases in recent months, prompting state-level advisories and increased health surveillance.
Rising infections in key states
Kerala continues to be the most affected state with 1,400 active cases, followed by Maharashtra with 485 and Delhi with 436. In the past 24 hours alone, Kerala reported 64 new cases, Delhi 61, and Maharashtra 18, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).
Deaths spark fresh concern
Two Covid-related deaths were also reported during this period—one each in Kerala and Karnataka. In Kerala, a 24-year-old woman with underlying conditions like sepsis, hypertension, and decompensated chronic liver disease (DCLD) succumbed to the virus. Karnataka recorded the death of a 63-year-old man who had Pulmonary TB, Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the buccal mucosa, and was found to be Covid-positive incidentally.
Advisory issued in Karnataka
With the recent increase in cases, the Karnataka government has issued an advisory urging the public to wear masks in crowded places, practice social distancing, and maintain personal hygiene. Authorities have emphasized the importance of responsible behaviour to prevent further spread.
Delhi records first death amid surge
Delhi too reported its first Covid-19 death during the recent surge. A 60-year-old woman suffering from acute intestinal obstruction died after testing positive. Officials confirmed the Covid finding was incidental but marked the death as part of the current tally.
