Bengaluru: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to refrain from election campaigning and instead focus on national security following the developments related to Operation Sindoor. Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Kharge stressed the importance of leadership concentrating on external threats during a sensitive time for the nation.

“I don’t like reacting to all his statements,” Kharge remarked, but urged the Prime Minister to “recuse himself from elections and focus on the country.” He added that PM Modi should take stock of the current situation and address the nation in a manner befitting the seriousness of recent events.

Kharge said, “I am saying without any political differences that he should focus on the enemy instead of self-praise. No one except him would have done it.” He underscored that the Congress party stands firmly with the Indian Armed Forces, offering full support amid escalating tensions.

The Congress chief criticised the Prime Minister for continuing political tours and speeches while Congress delegations are abroad for security consultations. “Let them come back. Till they return, it is not proper to be touring around and giving speeches,” he said.

Taking a jab at PM Modi’s claim of giving a “free hand” to the military, Kharge questioned the need for self-congratulation. “If he has given full power to the armed forces, then why is he claiming that he did it? Self-boasting is not good,” he said.

Kharge concluded with a call for restraint: “We will not say anything as the situation is not normal. So long as there is an army, we all are safe. That’s why we support the armed forces.”
