New Delhi: As the nation commemorates the 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi declared that “giving a befitting reply to the enemy has now become India’s new tradition.” Addressing the ceremonial event held in honour of the 1999 Kargil victory, he referred to ‘Operation Sindoor’ as a decisive and symbolic response to the recent Pahalgam terror attack.
Decisive Response is the New Norm, Not Just Mourning
General Dwivedi said that the operation sent a strong and clear message to Pakistan — that terrorism and its backers will no longer be spared. “India does not just mourn attacks now. It acts. This decisive retaliation is our new standard,” he stated. He emphasised that Operation Sindoor was not just a tactical operation but a statement of India’s strategic shift in counter-terror policy.
Three New Initiatives Launched for Public Participation
During the ceremony, the Army Chief also inaugurated three new public-oriented projects aimed at honouring war heroes and enhancing public awareness about the 1999 war:
E-Shraddhanjali Portal: A digital platform enabling citizens to pay tribute to fallen soldiers online.
QR Code-Based Audio Gateway: Visitors at memorials can scan QR codes to hear stories from the Kargil War battles.
Sindhu View Point: A strategic viewing point in the Batalik sector allowing visitors a direct view of the Line of Control (LoC) and India’s defence posture.
Kargil Vijay Diwas: Remembering the Ultimate Sacrifice
Every year on July 26, India observes Kargil Vijay Diwas to honour the soldiers who reclaimed Indian territories from Pakistani intruders during Operation Vijay in 1999. It is a day of pride and remembrance for India’s unmatched military bravery and strategic excellence.
CDS General Anil Chauhan Pays Tribute to Battlefield Bravery
Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan also paid homage to the soldiers, highlighting their courage in adverse conditions. “They climbed vertical cliffs under enemy fire, in extreme weather, and still triumphed. This war showed exemplary leadership from young officers and unmatched commitment from our forces,” he said.
General Chauhan recalled Pakistan’s betrayal, where regular Pakistani troops disguised as militants infiltrated Indian territory. He lauded the Indian Army for fighting with unparalleled determination to protect the nation’s sovereignty.
