Indigo passenger opens emergency exit on Chennai-Tiruchirappalli flight, probe on

Chennai, Jan 17:  A passenger on an Indigo flight on December 10, 2022, caused chaos after he opened the emergency door of the plane. The incident took place on an Indigo 6E-7339 flight while it was flying from Chennai to Tiruchirapalli.

The plane could only take off again from the airport after it went through a pressurisation check after the airport. Taking cognizance of the incident, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered an investigation into the incident.

Confirming that the flight regulator had taken note of the incident, a senior DGCA official told ANI, “The incident was duly reported. It appears that the passenger opened the RH emergency exit door by mistake while the aircraft was still on the ground. The crew moved in swiftly and all appropriate action to restore airworthiness such as reinstalling the door, pressurisation check was carried out before the flight was cleared for departure. No safety protocol was compromised with.”

Incidents of unruly passengers on flights are on the rise in India. The incident follows multiple incidents of bad behaviour on flights in India. This includes one of the most highlighted incidents of a passenger peeing on his co-passenger on an Air India flight.
