Ranchi, Jan 5: The insufficient number of police personnel at the two railway stations of Ranchi is enabling the passengers coming to Jharkhand capital to escape from giving the samples for the Covid test.

During a rough survey at both the stations, it was found that people are trying to ignore the instructions of the Covid testing team and in the absence of police force, people are escaping the place without giving samples.

Covid testing in-charge at Hatia Railway Station Avinash Kumar said that only six police personnel are available in one shift which is placed at gate number 1. The other two gates do not have police personnel from where people tend to escape without giving their samples.

Covid testing in-charge at Ranchi Railway Station Divyana Khalkho said that more police personnel are required to control the passengers so that everyone gets tested.

“Though our team is trying its level best to take the samples of each and every passenger, if more police personnel are deployed then the work will become easier,” Khalkho said.

On the issue of shortage of police personnel at both the railway stations SDM Deepak Kumar Dubey said that a letter has been written to the SSP for providing police force at both the stations.

“A total of 9,000 samples were collected from both stations on January 4. The police personnel are continuously rotated and the vacant place is filled to support the Covid testing team,” Dubey said.

On the question of whether the covid positive tested passengers are to be kept in institutional isolation or home isolation, ADM (Law and order) Utkarsh Gupta said that asymptomatic persons are allowed to stay in the home isolation and the symptomatic person is taken to the institutional isolation centre.
