New Delhi, March 14: All foreign passenger flights will resume operation by March 27, according to Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who spoke to the Rajya Sabha on Monday. The Minister made the statement during Question Hour, when the Upper House reconvened after a month’s hiatus for the second half of the Budget Session.

“All regular international flights will operate in 100 per cent capacity by March 27 as the coronavirus situation in India has improved now,” Scindia said.

Notably, beginning March 23, 2020, the government has imposed a week-long ban on all international scheduled flights. In the midst of a raging pandemic, the ban lasted nearly two years.

Special international flights between India and roughly 35 other countries have been flying under the air bubble starting July 2020.

The decision is intended to encourage foreign tourism and assist down airfares, which have been rising as crude oil prices have risen. The government had planned to begin international flights on March 15, but the Russia-Ukraine crisis, which prompted relief flights to transport stranded Indians back to India, caused the procedure to be postponed.
