New Delhi: In a serious security lapse, a 20-year-old man named Rama entered the Parliament House premises early Friday morning by climbing a tree and scaling a 20-metre-high wall near the Garuda gate. The incident took place around 6:30 am, with officials confirming that security personnel quickly apprehended the intruder.

Incident Details

Authorities said Rama jumped over the wall from the Rail Bhavan side and managed to reach the Garuda gate, which is located about 15 metres from the boundary. He was caught on the spot by CISF and Delhi Police officers. The police described him as “mentally incoherent” and said interrogation and verification are underway.

Past Security Breaches

This is not the first such incident. In 2023, on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack, two individuals disrupted proceedings by jumping into the Lok Sabha chamber and releasing coloured gas, while their associates created chaos outside. Earlier, another young man had scaled the Parliament Annexe building’s wall, though nothing incriminating was found during the frisking.

Court Proceedings Linked to Previous Case

Earlier this week, the Delhi High Court sought the police’s response to a bail plea by Lalit Jha, one of the accused in the 2023 Parliament breach. Several others arrested in the case remain in judicial custody as investigations continue.

Political Context

The latest breach comes just a day after the monsoon session of Parliament ended, a session marked by frequent disruptions that overshadowed legislative business. The fresh incident has reignited concerns about the adequacy of security at India’s most sensitive political institution.
