Dhanbad, Feb 24: Trade union leaders of Jharkhand got a large chunk of berths in the new national committee of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) announced at the Delhi convention of the organisation.
In a two-day national convention, which concluded on Thursday evening, 17 senior leaders of Dhanbad, Ranchi and Jamshedpur have been given posts in the national committee formed under S Sanjeeva Reddy as president and Sanjay Singh as general secretary.
Moreover, Rana Sangram Singh of Ranchi HEC workers union president, Sanjiv Choudhary and Satish Kumar Singh president and general secretary respectively of Tata Workers Union, Jamshedpur have been made secretary. Jharkhand’s INTUC president Raghunath Pandey also of Jamshedpur has been given the post of secretary in the new committee.
Rashtriya Colliery Mazdoor Union (RCMU) president Jaymangal Singh alias Anup Singh MLA ( Bermo), working president Brajendra Prasad Singh, general secretary AK Jha, Santosh Mahto, Girja Shankar Pandey, Virendra Prasad Ambastha of Dhanbad have also been given the post of secretary.
Besides it, Rashtriya Colliery Mazdoor Sangh (RCMS) president Suresh Chandra Jha and Lalan Choubey have been made organizational secretaries. INTUC leaders said the house assigned president S Sanjeeva Reddy to form the committee. More posts would be given to Jharkhand leaders soon.
Since it was the first national convention of INTUC after the death of Rajendra Prasad Singh (national general secretary), it was expected that Anup Singh ( son of Rajendra Prasad Singh) would be given an important role in the national body but he has been given merely a post of senior secretary.
INTUC leaders of Jharkhand are not happy with berths given to trade unions in the state. At the Kanpur national convention in 2019 when Rajendra Prasad Singh was alive, half a dozen senior posts were given but at the Delhi convention in 2023 not a single post of vice-president has been given.
One of the leaders said Rajendra Prasad Singh (former health minister of Jharkhand) was a pillar of INTUC. In 1994, S Sanjeeva Reddy and Rajendra Prasad Singh were first-time elected president and general secretary respectively.
“In 2000, Ranchi INTUC convention general body in one voice passed a resolution making Rajendra Prasad Singh INTUC national president. But he (Rajendra Prasad Singh) turned down the proposal and proposed the name of S Sanjeeva Reddy,” recalled AK Jha general secretary of RCMU.
