IPL 2022: Mega auction likely to take place in Bengaluru or Kochi

New Delhi, Dec 23: The Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction for the 2022 season is expected to take place in February of next year in either Bengaluru or Kochi .

Following the retention day, when all eight existing franchises revealed their priority picks, newly formed teams Lucknow and Ahmedabad will contact some of the star players who did not make the retention list prior to the mega auction. Before the mega auction, Lucknow and Ahmedabad can sign their respective marquee players.

Prior to the mega auction, the two new IPL franchises are allowed to sign three players at a price of 15 crores, 11 crores, and 7 crores, respectively. According to recent developments, the IPL 2022 mega auction is set to take place on February 7 and 8 in Bengaluru.

“Unless the COVID19 situation worsens, India will host the IPL mega auction. The two-day event will be held on February 7 and 8, and as in previous years, it will be held in either Bengaluru or Kochi,” said the sources.

In the mega auction for the cash-rich league’s 15th season, a slew of seasoned campaigners and exciting young talents are set to go under the hammer.

Some of the biggest names in world cricket, including David Warner, KL Rahul, Rashid Khan, Shreyas Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jonny Bairstow, Faf du Plessis, Dwayne Bravo, Hardik Pandya, and Krunal Pandya, were not retained by their respective IPL teams prior to the mega auction.

“Unless the COVID-19 situation worsens, we will have the IPL mega auction in India. The two-day event will be held on February 7 and 8 and like other years, we plan to hold it in Bengaluru. Preparations are underway,” a senior BCCI official told.

A host of seasoned campaigners and exciting young talents are set to go under the hammer in the mega auction for the cash-rich league’s 15th season. Star players like David Warner, KL Rahul, Rashid Khan, Shreyas Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jonny Bairstow, Faf du Plessis, Dwayne Bravo, Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya are some of the biggest names in world cricket who were not retained by their respective IPL teams prior to the mega auction.

Lucknow franchise is signing big names one after the other as part of their coaching staff. After the appointment of former Punjab Kings assistant coach, Andy Flower as the head coach and two-time IPL winner Gautam Gambhir as the mentor of the side, the RP Sanjiv Goenka Group-owned side roped in Vijay Dahiya as their assistant coach.
